A word from our excutive director! |
Welcome to a new school year!
As the new school year begins, I encourage you to renew your commitment to being involved in campus activities, or to seek out new opportunities to become involved with your adult student organization.
Most adult students find themselves juggling time between work, family, and school, leaving very little time for nonessentials. Unfortunately, involvement with a student organization is often considered one of those nonessentials. Research has found, however, that students who are involved in campus organizations are more successful both in and out of the classroom. There is validated benefit to making connections with other students, faculty, and the administration at your institution.
I was a nontraditional student myself and I completely understand the huge demands on your time. I also understand that finding an hour or two a month to be involved with school activities can enhance your education and build your resume for a future career. Many times it is the connections made while in school that will open doors for you after graduation.
As you are filling out your new school calendar, please mark two important dates- November 6-12, 2005 and March 3-5, 2006. The National Non-Traditional Student Week is always the first full week in November; this year it will be on November 6-12. Please use this time to celebrate your accomplishments and promote adult issues at your institution. March 3-5, 2006 is the date for our next ANTSHE National Conference; please plan on joining us in New Hampshire as Southern New Hampshire University presents “Back to Your Future; Navigating Life’s Transitions.” You can find more information on the conference on the ANTSHE website, www.antshe.org.
Again, welcome to a new school year. I look forward to meeting each of you at our conference in New Hampshire.
